In my 30 plus years as a cosmetologist, I have come across many conditions of thinning hair.
While there are many contributing factors that cause hair to thin, some are hormonal changes (birth control pills), change in diet, age, harsh products, excessive heat damage and too tight hair styles.
The good news is that regrowth is possible depending on the cause. Individuals who experience thinning hair due to non-genetic reasons have a higher chance, and those who have medically determined deficiencies shouldn’t lose hope; there are remedies based on the medical diagnosis.
It is imperative to select products with natural ingredients that are formulated to fortify the scalp, deep cleanse hair and scalp, balance pH levels, balance sebum, nourish and hydrate the scalp while visibly improving the strength and texture of the hair.
Peppermint contains menthol, the principle ingredient that is responsible for its beneficial effects. Although peppermint has been generally regarded for its refreshing scent in cosmetics formulations, peppermint essential oils promotes hair growth by inducing elongated hair follicles.
Peppermint essential oils play a significant role in the active (anagen) phase of the hair growth cycle.
This phase is where the cells in the root of the hair divides rapidly forming new hair by pushing the club hair (hair that is no longer in the growth phase) up through the follicle and eventually out of the scalp, inducing very thick and long hair.
The anagen phase is the longest phase of the hair growth cycle which lasts anywhere from 3-5 years, while some singe strands can continue growing up to 7 years.
More strands can remain in the active anagen phase by simply taking care of your scalp with specifically formulated hair and scalp care products, drinking plenty of water, consuming a healthy diet and getting a daily dose of sun.
Now that you’ve gained some insight on the importance of a healthy scalp as it relates to thinning hair, you have the opportunity to choose hair products more wisely.
